Cyber Monday sale

This post is a little late, but better late than never, right? 😉

Shop small and local this weekend! Obviously I am a small business owner and every single sale that comes through my Etsy shop and in person is VERY much appreciated. It’s not easy owning a small business – there is TONS of competition. However, it’s very rewarding and I’ve met the most amazing people because of my small businesses.

So, this weekend through 12/1 save 25% + get a free gift with your Handcrafted by Heather purchase. In addition, get a $25 Etsy gift card when you spend $100! Oh, and you’ll still get free shipping within the U.S.

Geesh. Great deals.

Happy 2013!

Welcome, 2013, it’s nice to meet you.

I love new years, new months, new weeks (Yes, I LOVE Mondays!), and brand new days. You can start fresh, do something new and different if you want. It’s really pretty awesome. I’m finding that I have to LET myself do that. The only person holding me back from feeling ‘fresh and new’ is yours truly.

Now, I know this is a blog about my jewelry and handcrafted items, but since I’ve started my Arbonne biz I feel it’s become a part of me, as an artist and a person. I’m much more positive (or at least I try REALLY hard to be!) about really everything. That includes be more positive about my jewelry. I feel like I’m doing MORE, less often, and I think it’s paying off. Hense, not writing a blog post since last August… yeah… I’ve been busy- it’s a good thing.

2013 is going to bring all sorts of changes for Handcrafted by Heather, and me, Heather. We’ll be growing, changing, and exploring together. It’s bound to be interesting and very exciting!!! so, stay tuned.

Springing into Spring, Marching into March…

….I could do this all day……. but I won’t…. You’re welcome. 😛

It’s March already! Yikes! This year is already flying! phew!

I’ve been busy… [SUPER busy] making new jewelry, filling custom orders, promoting, photographing, and planning 3 parties- wait, no 4 parties; my son’s 3rd birthday is coming up and we’re having a family gathering that will be dinosaur themed (of course, what else?!).

This coming Sunday March 11th, I am hosting a grand ‘ol party at LiSalon. It’s an open house jewelry and wine accessory party. If you happen to live in the Ithaca, New York area, please be sure to stop in between 1:00 and 4:00pm. LiSalon is located at 412 East Upland Road in Community Corners.  If you’re one of the first 25 guests to sign in you’ll receive a gift bag jam-packed with HCBH jewelry and wine accessories, as well as some samples from the gals at the salon to keep your hair look fabulous!

If you don’t live in the Ithaca area, or you simply can’t make it- no worries! I’m having an online Jewelry party starting March 22 (Happy Birthday, Grandma) and this will last for a couple of weeks so that all of you have a chance to get your hands on all your favorite goodies. I’ll post all of the information in my next post.

April 22nd is a ways away, but that’s the day I’ll be hosting yet another Spring Jewelry and Wine Accessory party at my apartment. If you live in the Canandaigua area and are interested in attending this party please feel free to email me with your mailing address. I will mail you an official invitation. This will be a more formal party, and will not be open to the public, but it’s still a party I’m busy thinking about.

**RIGHT NOW** I have a Suprise SOA Sale going on. If you purchase a Sons of Anarchy Inspired Jewelry piece, your entire order will be 10% less when you apply this shop coupon code at checkout: SUPRISESOA10. So take advantage of this sale while it lasts, which will only be a few more days.

It’s almost day light savings time again! Woohoo!!! Enjoy, everyone. ❤

New Year, new biz…

Happy new year everyone!!  I wish you a magical, and delightful 2012. We kept our celebration simple with the kiddo’s, a few friends, and my mother, who made my late Grandma’s fudge with me. Thanks, Mom!

I am a believer that a new year gives you a chance to change for the better. That shouldn’t just end with myself though; there’s a lot of things I can change within my business to make it better in 2012. For starters, my husband is going to be helping me with a budget- a REAL budget. Not the ‘Heather’ budget; ya know the one where I just buy whatever I want whenever I want. Yeah, that’s gotta go! I realize that mindset doesn’t help me be prosperous. It just simply satisfies my shopping fix. My hubby says that I should be getting my shopping fix with personal items (like clothes and shoes!) instead of business items. Okay, fair enough. I guess, if I HAVE to buy more shoes and fabulous clothes I will. Twist my arm…. ;-P

Secondly, I really need to write a business plan. Like, on paper. It’s all down in my head, and I know what my goals and plans are for the year- so that’s a good start, right?

Thirdly, I need to stay organized with my paperwork. All receipts will be filed in the appropriate folders, and in a neat orderly fashion.

Fourth, I’ll keep better track of my inventory. I have goodies at LiSalon in Ithaca, at the Finger Lakes Gift and Lounge in Geneva, and at Buttonwood Winery in Romulus, most of which I have no idea what is left, and what was sold. I’ve already started this process at LiSalon, but not everything is inventoried. I think I’ll use a day and just go to each place to catch up on my goodies.

Lastly, I’m going to try to get my feet wet in the art and craft shows this year. I’ve already been researching online for shows to apply to, but I’m having a lot of trouble finding smaller less costly shows to attend… hmmm…

Other things to look forward to from Handcrafted by Heather in 2012:

-You’ll be able to find some of my jewelry, and wine goodies available to purchase from the Finger Lakes Store online;

-New and better sales and coupons;

-Giveaways!

-Watches for men and woman;

-New Sons of Anarchy Inspired Jewelry;

-and lots more, so stay tuned!

Thanks for reading,

Heather

A new discovery…

I just found a new way to sell my goodies- on Facebook!

I utilize Facebook so much to connect with my fans, customers, and friends. I’ve made some GREAT new and fabulous friends all over the world, including Norway, the UK, and Sweden because of Facebook, and a mutual love (and I’m going to lie, a mutal slight obsession) for Sons of Anarchy. I’m really suprised I didn’t know about this feature, or Facebook App, before now. It’s called simply the Facebook Shopping Mall, and I’m proud to have opened another store within this virtual mall.

I’m still working out the details, still learning about it all, and playing around with it. It’s a lot like Etsy, but you don’t have to sign up for anything (you do have to ‘Like’ my facebook page, though, and you must have your own FREE Facebook account). Payments go through PayPal (which is also FREE and you don’t need to sign up for an account to use it!), just like in my Etsy shops.

With this new Facebook store I’ll be able to offer special discounts, unique coupons, and special items specific to my Facebook store. Customers and fans will be able to comment and like each item, which will give them product coupon codes and other discounts-just by ‘liking’ the item. From my Facebook store customers will still be able to see and make comments on the page ‘wall’, view pictures, and see Handcrafted by Heather information, as well as giveaways.

I’m really hoping that this will be a great feature for my facebook fans. A lot of my awesome customers have found me through Facebook, so I hope that you all utilize my new store and take advantage of the awesome discounts, coupon codes, and sales that will only be available to my Facebook customers and fans.

Getting ready for Christmas

The show I did this past weekend at King Ferry Winery was a success, and I’m a happy lady!

Now that I’m done with all shows for the year, I can start concentrating on Christmas decorating, wrapping, and relaxing a bit. After I take pictures of jewelry, edit the photos, and post them all on Etsy, of course. That might be a project for after the new year- we’ll see how ambitious I am.

Along with decorating, I’ll be making gifts for my daughter, mother, step mom, and sisters. Busy Busy Busy! And I love every minute of it!

Big sales at my Jewelry Etsy shop coming up- stay tuned!

Going on now: All Turquoise Jewelry is 15% off! No coupon code needed! If you’re a facebook fan of my page, feel free to use your special coupon code on top of already reduced prices!

Business in 2011

Starting my own business has always been in my blood (at least I think so anyway). My maternal grandfather owned his own carpentry company and did rather well- well enough to support a wife and three daughters. My dad is always coming up with interesting ideas on how we can make money doing something interesting and fun. My aunt (Dad’s sister) is a successful “E-Bayer”.

Beside’s being born with this gene to do your own thing, I was an only child. I played by myself a lot, and grew up doing my own thing my own way on my own time. The longest job I’ve held was 2.5 years, with a 6 month break to stay home with my youngest son.  Since my first job at McDonalds, I’ve found each job working for ‘the man’ monotonous, and pretty rediculous.  Every shift I worked I felt like a robot doing something totally useless and mindless. I’ve always had this feeling that I wasn’t doing anything to better the world, yet have always had the desire to do so.

Now, I’m not saying that making jewelry, and other unique crafty items is world altering, but I believe in my heart that you do what you can to make the world a better place. With such a horrible economy these days (all over the world), and banks going under (or taking total advantage of the ‘goodness’ of our government’s help), it seems that some people are starting to grasp the BIGGER picture. Well, the small bigger picture. Buy handcrafted American made goods from your small and local businesses instead of these big box stores so that when you want to buy those ‘things’ you’re getting quality goods AND you’re supporting your neighbors. This is what America was built on.

Since I’ve become an adult, started my own family, and am paying my own bills, I can see how expensive it can be to eat healthy, buy American made, and purchase from small businesses. However, I’ve also seen how much more quality and value there is in paying MORE for the healthy foods, the American made products, and the handcrafted items from small businesses. Maybe this is because I now own my own small business, or maybe this is because I want the best possible for my three young children and their future.

Before I started my own business in the middle of 2010, I rarely bought local. I thought WalMart was just about the only place to get ANYTHING. My husband was even worse than I! He’s still in the habit of heading over to Walmart first instead of the local grocery store, even though Wegmans is closer than Walmart. Weird, huh?  Lord knows Wegmans is a successful running (and growing) grocery store company. How do you think it became so successful? GREAT customer service, and people who ‘got it’; the people who believed in supporting their local small businesses. Even though Wegmans has over 40 stores from Maine to Virginia, they still have GREAT customer service, and they still buy local fruits and veggies. Love it!

When you own a small business (like yours truly) you HAVE to have welcoming, and warm hearted customer service. Otherwise your business will not be a success. I gurantee that. However, I do owe some of these excellent customer service skills to all of the jobs I  had prior to owning my own business.  Without all of the customer service experience I’ve had in my working life I bet you I would not have a successful and/0r growing business.

Some days are harder than others, and I do get discouraged, but I really want to keep up the pace. My hopes for 2012 are as follows, but certainly aren’t limited to:

-Start a fabulously unique beaded womans watch collection, and a mens leather cuff watch collection;

-Double my sales from 2011;

-Do one big art festival;

-Expand my customer following;

-Write more;

-spend more of my making paper goods.
